James L. "Jim" Burt is a partner with Maloney, Bean, Horn & Hull, P.C. practicing in aviation, insurance defense, product liability, business and commercial counseling and commercial and general civil litigation.

Mr. Burt is an experienced trial lawyer who has successfully tried cases before many courts and arbitration panels. Over his more than 26 years as a lawyer, and in addition to private practice in several states, Jim has also served as outside national litigation counsel of a large product manufacturer. Later as house counsel to a large aviation concern, he reduced the company’s defense litigation docket by over 80% in four years through the use of innovative approaches to the early and economical resolution of claims and disputes.

Mr. Burt has also been involved in the aviation industry as a private and military pilot for over 30 years, having served as a United States Army helicopter pilot and later as inside counsel with flying privileges for Bell Helicopter Textron Inc.

Jim graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1972 and, after an active duty tour in the Army, graduated from the Cecil Humphries School of Law at the University of Memphis in 1980. In addition to serving as an editor of his school’s Law Review, Jim also authored articles published in the Kentucky Bench & Bar Journal, the SMU Journal of Air and Space Law and the Bell Helicopter "RotorBreeze".

Mr. Burt is admitted to practice before all state and most Federal courts in Texas and Tennessee, before the 5th and 6th Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal and before the American Arbitration Association.
